Lead Your Resume

When you're a job seeker, you're constantly facing the most important six or seven seconds of your career. This is only the amount of time by which you can grab that much needed attention from the recruiter. Granting you are successful in that part, will you be able to convince them that your profile is worthy for another screening?

So, there is no point in fighting it – any potential job seeker or career ladder climber simply needs to ensure that in that all important six or seven seconds, your resume is ultimately impressive.

You could be the perfect candidate in the eyes of the recruiter. But the question is will you be able to send that across to that decision maker that you are indeed the right person for the job. You wouldn’t want to lose out on the basis of a bad resume would you?

Make it count – remember it’s your first impression.

Here are ten points which you can effectively lead your resume to stand out:

  1. FIRST IMPRESSIOM – Open with a statement that highlights the very best of your key strengths and achievements. Give emphasis on your achievements. This gives your resume value at first glance.

  2. STANDARD IS GOOD – There is no time to impress with gimmicks and visual wackiness. Just use the facts, and first.

  3. AVOID TECHNICAL JARGONS – No need to be dull but don’t go overboard with unnecessary or technical language. Sometimes it pays not to insult your future employer.

  4. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES – Make it obvious that you have done your homework and your statements are pinpointed to that role and organization specifically.

  5. KEEP IT CLEAR – Use an obvious structure & timeline – time is money.

  6. HONESTY IS STILL THE BEST POLICY – Make sure you tell the truth! In the internet age, it’s easy to get caught out.

  7. COVER EMPLOYMENT GAPS – Don’t gloss over any career breaks you may have had – just fill them in, and again, tell the truth.

  8. AVOID THE TYPO ERRORS – Your first impression MUST NOT contain any spelling or grammatical errors

  9. PROOFREAD MORE THAN TWICE – Get it proofread, again, again, and again.
